About the Artist: Chinese culture meets hip-hop and electronica The Shanghai Restoration Project (TSRP) draws its creative inspiration from the 1930s Shanghai jazz bands, an early example of East meets West that has become an international legend. Produced by Chinese-American Dave Liang, TSRP revives this exotic blend by melding Chinese instruments with the Western sounds of hip-hop and electronica. TSRP albums have reached the top of the iTunes and Amazon electronic charts, receive millions of plays on Pandora annually, and can often be heard in TV shows, films, and advertisements around the world. Select placements to date include a worldwide LVMH/Kenzo commercial, a Christian Dior runway show, iTunes Japan "Single of the Week", Showtime’s “The L Word,” and a Starbucks compilation. TSRP projects have received coverage in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC, NPR All Things Considered, and Rolling Stone. The group has performed at the Sundance Film Festival, MASS MoCA, Bryant Park Fall Festival, The Viper Room, 92yTribeca, and the Apple Store in Tokyo.
