What’s Up with That? is a multimedia collaboration with music by The Shanghai Restoration Project and visuals by Lei Lei (雷磊). The album features 10 original electronic compositions blending samples of cassette tape recordings of Lei Lei as a child with street sounds of current city life in China. The visuals are comprised of animated cutouts from the book “A Collection of Western Book Covers,” which were introduced to Lei Lei at an early age by his father who worked as a graphic designer in 1980s China.
